How I found how to drop the pain and get on with happiness: when Luis Brusca introduced me to buddhism.

It was a summer evening in 1993 in Barcelona. I was carrying the pain of someone else due to a relationship crisis which I knew was stupid and detrimental to my health. I was down alotus-695989_640nd apparently heading further down. I had just met Loco Brusca, a fellow performer and student of my workshops for many years before, and he was surprised by my miserable state. We’d lunched together and after was going to meet an English friend of his visiting from Mallorca. They were going to ‘chant’ together. I had no real idea what that meant although I suspected something spiritual of course. I said sure I’ll tag along especially if it might make a difference. Soon we were in an apartment of a friend and I sat by as they all ‘chanted’ quite a long and exhausting version of the GONGYO, the two chapters of the Lotus Sutra written by Shakyamuni Buddha, the Hoben (Expedient Means) and the Juryo (Life span).

Although the Lotus Sutra was written some two thousand years before, in the 13 century a young priest, Nichiren Daishonin , discovered a code in the Lotus sutra itself which he defined as NAM MYOHO RENGE KYO, and termed it the mystic law of the Universe. This is what I sat through that evening and yes, I did feel the energy, but didn’t really get what is was about. Luis told me try chanting at a blank wall morning and evening for about 15 minutes a time, to see how I would feel after some days.

After three days I realized I was back in my power, having dropped pain of my ex partner, and in fact so well separated from that negative emotion I also had the wisdom to decipher what a sad state I had allowed myself to get into.

I then started to practice daily, understanding the power of this study. I discovered the ploys of my ego which since I have been working to transform, especially after a near death accident which happened three months after, when I fell in a Christmas show in Denmark. It was simply due to my desire (and fear ) to be the best of the performers in that show: my ego…

Nam myoho renge kyo and its practice in fact taught me two lessons – one was the absolute importance of how to deal with negative emotions through the practice of chanting by turning my chantsmall ‘poison’ into ‘medicine’, and then later despite suffering from a long recovery process, hampered by post-operation staphylococcus, I was led by this repeated phrase me into forgiveness and compassionate action to myself and friends, in fact to all beings.

With nam myoho renge kyo, there is a way of changing one’s negative mind into a intentional transforming agent. This also brings other (latent) effects: the opening of the heart, bringing happiness and love.

All is possible, a similar concept to the idea behind empower network. The mindset is what has to be changed – change yourself and you can change the world. Empower Network founder Dave Wood promotes the importance of changing the personal mindset. with a mindset change comes prosperity and abundance at will.
